Naksansa Temple is a beautiful and historic Buddhist temple located on the east coast of Korea near Sokcho.

It’s famous for its stunning scenery, perched right along the coast with incredible views of both the sea and the mountains. The temple was founded over a thousand years ago and has been an important site for Korean Buddhism ever since.

The temple grounds are large and filled with things to explore. There are several beautiful structures, such as the Haesu Gwaneum statue—a massive, graceful statue of the Bodhisattva of Mercy that overlooks the ocean. You’ll also find small prayer halls, a lovely bell pavilion, and peaceful walking paths that let you wander through the temple grounds.

There’s even a souvenir shop where you can pick up small mementos and Buddhist items.

The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, with pathways that lead you in different directions—one path takes you along the coast, offering views of the ocean, while another path leads you to the grand statue of Buddha, standing tall and peaceful.

Personally, although I don’t follow Buddhism, I love visiting Naksansa whenever I travel to Sokcho.

The atmosphere there brings me a sense of calm and peace, which feels refreshing every time.

If you’re planning a trip to Sokcho, I’d highly recommend a visit to Naksansa Temple! It’s truly a place that leaves a lasting impression.
