Do you like cats? Or are you more of a dog person?
I actually wasn't much of a cat person before, but everything changed when I started living with my cat, Kkotbbang (꽃빵이).
Kkotbbang is an eight-year-old Ragdoll cat. By the way, the name "Kkotbbang" has a special meaning. In Korean, "kkot" means flower, and "bbang" means bread. The name comes from a soft, flower-shaped Chinese steamed bun often served with gochu-japchae, a Korean-Chinese dish made with stir-fried peppers and meat. I thought the name was perfect for such a soft and fluffy cat!
The breed name "Ragdoll" also has an interesting meaning. It refers to a soft, floppy stuffed doll because these cats often relax their bodies when being held. Ragdolls are known for their gentle, friendly, and affectionate personalities.
In Korea, we have a funny word, "gae-nyang-i" (개냥이), which describes a cat that acts more like a friendly dog. And I think Kkotbbang is the perfect example of one!
Whenever I call Kkotbbang's name, my cat comes running. Kkotbbang loves being close to people and always tries to sit near someone's feet or on their lap.
When guests come over, Kkotbbang doesn't run away or hide. Instead, my cat happily welcomes them, even if they are complete strangers. And every day when I come home from work, Kkotbbang is waiting for me at the front door, just like a little dog greeting its owner.
At night, Kkotbbang likes to sleep near my feet at the end of my bed, as if being close to me is the most natural thing in the world.
What's even more amazing is that Kkotbbang has never hissed at anyone, not even once! My cat doesn't seem to mind when I rub that fluffy belly or gently touch those adorable little paw pads, which cat lovers sometimes call "toe beans."
Before living with Kkotbbang, I thought cats were independent, distant, and not particularly interested in people. To be honest, I never really understood why people loved cats so much.
But now I completely understand!
I've discovered that cats can be incredibly affectionate, gentle, funny, and full of personality. They have their own special ways of showing love, and the more time I spend with Kkotbbang, the more I fall in love with cats.
Sometimes I even wonder how I ever lived without one.
It's funny how one little animal can completely change the way you feel about an entire species. I never expected to become such a cat lover, but here I am!
What about you? Do you like cats? Are you a cat person, a dog person, or both?
And if you have a pet, I'd love to hear what makes your furry friend special!
