This past April, I had the chance to visit one of the most breathtaking cherry blossom spots in Korea—Gongjicheon in Chuncheon.
As the seasons changed and the air grew warmer, I found myself drawn to the soft pink hues that began to paint the riverside paths. In 2025, the cherry blossoms in Chuncheon began to bloom around April 4th and reached their peak by April 11th. I visited just in time to catch them in full glory, and it felt like walking through a fairytale.
Gongjicheon is famous for its scenic cherry blossom trail, which stretches along the river for nearly 2 kilometers. During full bloom, the entire walkway is enveloped in a tunnel of blossoms, their petals fluttering gently in the breeze like spring snow. It’s no wonder this area is considered one of the most beloved cherry blossom spots in Gangwon Province. Locals and tourists alike flock to the riverside to bask in the beauty of the season.
As I strolled along the path, the view was absolutely mesmerizing. The cherry trees stood on both sides of the trail, arching over with their delicate branches, forming a canopy of soft pink and white above. Families, couples, and groups of friends were out enjoying picnics, snapping photos, and laughing together. The river reflected the blossoms in its still water, creating a mirror-like scene that made everything feel twice as magical.
One of the things I loved most about Gongjicheon was how peaceful and spacious it felt, even with many visitors. There was a comforting calm in the air, with the sounds of nature blending into the background music of laughter and spring breezes. I also noticed rental paddle boats gently drifting along the water, adding a playful charm to the view.
As the sun began to set, the golden light filtered through the petals, making them glow with a warmth that felt almost surreal. The path lit up softly, and the gentle fragrance of the blossoms lingered in the air. It was the kind of moment you want to bottle up and keep forever.
This visit reminded me of how fleeting and precious spring truly is. Gongjicheon wasn’t just a place to see cherry blossoms—it was a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel fully immersed in the beauty of the present moment. I’m already looking forward to returning next year.
