Hello everyone,

I would like to say for you about I get my new experience after coming in Korea.  As a new international student in South Korea, one of the most enriching experiences I had participating in Chuseok, the Korean harvest festival. This holiday, often referred to as “Korean Thanksgiving,” is celebrated with vibrant traditions, delicious food, and a strong sense of family.

Chuseok typically occurs in late September or early October, depending on the lunar calendar. It’s a time for families to come together, honor their ancestors, and celebrate the harvest. The holiday lasts for three days, with the main events centered around family gatherings, traditional games, and feasting.

On September 11, 2024, I had attending Hallym Chuseok festival. It was a bright autumn day and one of the most cultural and happy events I have experienced since arriving in Korea. This festival had organized by global engagement center for international students.

It can be possible to taste the traditional Korean food and know about the various foods of Koreans during the cultural events. The traditional rice cakes filled with sweet sesame seeds and beans and the delicious different types of rice cakes also delighted our hearts with the sweet drink made from rice.

Many foreign students, including myself, participated in this event and we were most impressed to wear Hanbok, the traditional Korean dress. On that day, I was able to fulfill that desire that I had been longing for a long time. We wore Hanbok and took many photos and were very happy.

Korean traditional games such as Yutnori and Ssireum were also included in the event, and I had a lot of fun. We made many memories with our Korean friends.

I have an unlimited passion and interest in music. The musical evening organized that evening was another attractive feature. This was the first music I heard after coming to Korea and it was a fresh experience for me who always loved K pop music. We enjoyed the music while eating popcorn provided by Korean friends.

I think as international students, experiencing this first Chuseok was an incredible opportunity to better understand Korean culture.  Interacting with Korean students and participating in their cultural events allowed me to build strong friendships with them and make many memories that will never be forgotten in life.

This festival gave me a new experience of South Korea’s vibrant culture and it was one of the best experiences I have had since coming to the country. I would like to say you One day if you ever get chance to attend Chuseok festival and wear Hanbok and don’t miss these experiences.
