Language & Culture BIGBANG at Coachella... this can't be real

BIGBANG recently performed at Coachella, which still feels a bit unreal.
Growing up listening to their music and stanning them for years (not as much recently, but their songs are still kind of in my system), seeing them on a stage that big brings up a lot of mixed feelings.
There’s a bit of nostalgia, a bit of pride, and a bit of disbelief. It’s not something I ever expected—seeing a group I listened to as a kid show up at one of the biggest music festivals in the world.
What made it even more interesting was Daesung performing his solo trot song “Look at Me, Gwisun.”
For context, trot is often considered a more traditional Korean genre, something that was more popular with older generations rather than what people usually associate with modern K-pop.
This song came out when I had just started middle school, so it adds another layer of nostalgia.
And honestly, trot is probably one of the last things you’d expect to hear at Coachella, which makes the whole moment even more surprising.
From what I could find, the local reaction wasn’t negative overall, which makes it even more interesting. A lot of people seemed to find it unexpected but fun, and some even described it as memorable or even iconic.
At this point, it kind of makes you wonder if Korean trot artists like Lim Young-woong could eventually find some kind of audience overseas as well.
