Food & Drink Food That Feels Like Home

My taste in food differs from many other foreigners living in South Korea. Although I am trying to get used to traditional Korean food and some other dishes, it is tedious for me to go beyond my usual taste preferences. Last week, when I was very hungry and craved something special, I visited HIMALAYA, an Indian restaurant in Chuncheon that I had frequented several times before.
The experience began with my favorite dish, Lamb Biryani, a majestic taste also using spices similar to those found in Bangladesh. The rice was fragrant and colorful, layered with tender lamb that fell apart at the slightest touch, mingled with saffron and a medley of spices that evoked distant lands. Alongside the biryani, I ordered classics—soft Gulab Jamun soaked in syrup, and Ras Malai, whose milky richness provided a soothing finale to the spicy meal.
However, no feast is complete without Tandoori Chicken and Butter Naan. The chicken, marinated in yogurt and spices, was charred to perfection, delivering a smoky zest that is a hallmark of Tandoori cuisine. The Butter Naan, soft and fluffy, glistened with butter, perfect for sopping up the rich, vibrant sauces. Dining at Himalaya Restaurant felt like a brief return to Bangladesh, with each dish reminding me of the bustling streets and vibrant bazaars back home.
