Hello everyone,
Today was a very special day for me. I went to my Korean teacher’s home for the first time. It was a warm and happy experience that I will always remember.
When I arrived at her house, she welcomed me with a big smile. Her home was clean and cozy, and I felt very comfortable. We had planned to cook together, so we started preparing dakgalbi right away. Dakgalbi is a popular Korean dish made with spicy chicken, vegetables. It was my first time cooking it, and I was very excited.
My teacher showed me step by step how to make it. We cut the vegetables, cleaned the chicken, and mixed the spicy sauce. Then we cooked everything in a big pan on the table. As the food cooked, the smell filled the kitchen, and we both felt very hungry. The taste was amazing – spicy, a little sweet, and very delicious. I felt proud that I helped to make it.
While we were cooking and eating, we talked a lot. We spoke in simple Korean and also a little English. We talked about our daily life, hobbies, and the differences between Korean and Sri Lankan food. My teacher was very interested in Sri Lankan food, so I told her about curry, coconut milk, and how we eat rice almost every day. She said she would like to try Sri Lankan food one day.
We also talked about Korean food. She explained how many Korean dishes are healthy because they use a lot of vegetables and fermented food like kimchi. I told her that some Sri Lankan dishes are also healthy, but we use more spices and strong flavors. It was fun to share our cultures with each other.
I felt very happy to have this chance. I learned more about Korean culture and food, and I could also share my Sri Lankan culture. It made me feel closer to my teacher and more confident in using Korean in daily life.
Before I left, she gave me some homemade kimchi to take home. I thanked her many times for the nice time, the food, and her kindness. It was not just a cooking day, but a day of friendship and cultural exchange.
I hope to invite her to my home next time and cook Sri Lankan food for her. Today reminded me that food is a powerful way to connect people from different cultures. I’m very thankful for this experience and look forward to more moments like this.
