Food & Drink Sri Lankan Flavors from My Kitchen – A Taste of Home

Last week, I spent some time reconnecting with my roots through cooking and I’m so happy to share a few dishes I made at home. All these are inspired by the vibrant and diverse cuisine of Sri Lanka, filled with spices, textures, and love.
In the first meal, I made white rice served with spicy soy meat curry, creamy dhal, and crunchy fried dry fish a simple yet classic Sri Lankan comfort dish.
The second plate features string hoppers (indi appa) topped with thick dhal curry and pol sambol (coconut sambol). This is one of my favorite breakfast combos warm, soft, and spicy, perfect to start the day right.
The third bowl was a bit special – egg curry with coconut milk gravy, coconut sambol, and spicy parippu vadai. It reminded me of weekend lunches back home. The richness of the curry with the egg and the spice from the sambol made it so hearty.
Finally, I prepared rice with parippu (lentils), spicy jackfruit curry (polos), fish cutlets, and fried papadam. This combination brought both crunch and softness together beautifully.
It was such a joy preparing these dishes while being far from Sri Lanka. Cooking these meals gave me a sense of comfort, warmth, and a connection to family and tradition.
