Food & Drink How Social Media Revived Seasonal Eating

A few months ago, my social media feed was filled with posts about bomdong bibimbap, a dish made with spring cabbage. More recently, garlic scape rice bowls and garlic scape pasta seem to be everywhere. It is interesting how a single seasonal ingredient can suddenly become a trend and inspire so many people to cook the same dishes.
What I find interesting is that modern technology was once expected to reduce the importance of seasons. Thanks to advanced transportation and food storage systems, most ingredients are available throughout the year. In theory, seasonal eating should have become less important.
However, the opposite seems to be happening. Social media has made people more aware of seasonal ingredients and has increased their desire to enjoy foods that are only available for a limited time. Instead of choosing foods simply because they are healthy or convenient, many people now choose them because they represent a specific season.
This trend suggests that even in a world where almost everything is available all year, people still value things that feel temporary and special. In an interesting way, social media is helping revive the importance of seasonal eating rather than making it disappear.
