From October 11-12, 2024, I attended the 4th Chuncheon Lifelong Learning Festival held at Chuncheon City Hall’s Hoban Square. This event celebrated the outcomes and values of lifelong learning and promoted learning culture across the community. It featured a variety of exhibitions, activities, and performances, providing an opportunity to engage with each display and experience. Visitors collected stamps at each booth, and after collecting a certain number, participants received a delightful cotton candy treat as a reward.
On the first day, I visited the "Air-Purifying Plant Hanging" booth, where I created a hanging plant installation to help improve indoor air quality. It involved making plastic holders to suspend plants, which highlighted the significance of small, sustainable steps to create a positive environmental impact.
I also took part in the "Make Your Own Decorative Handprint" activity, where participants used jewels and beads to craft personalized handprint decorations, an enjoyable mix of learning and creativity. This hands-on activity was therapeutic, allowing us to express our unique designs, and the supportive atmosphere encouraged meaningful conversations.
Another engaging activity was creating mini eco-bags with calligraphy. Each of us decorated small bags with personalized messages and illustrations, underscoring the importance of environmental consciousness and sustainability. This process of designing an eco-bag to replace disposable bags was both fun and inspiring.
At the DIY phone stand booth, we assembled and painted our phone holders, allowing a chance to personalize the stands with colors and decorations of our choice. The satisfaction of making an item to use at home was rewarding, providing a meaningful takeaway.
As I completed each activity, I received a stamp, adding an enjoyable, interactive aspect to the event. The stamp tour system encouraged us to explore all of the festival’s programs and made the experience even more engaging.
Overall, the Chuncheon Lifelong Learning Festival was not just a recreational experience; it was a chance to learn about everyday sustainability and the community’s role in fostering a culture of learning. Through this experience, I gained insight into the importance of lifelong learning, while developing a renewed appreciation for Chuncheon’s dedication to education and community engagement.
