Social Magic of Snow

When many people around me started posting on their social media about their "first snow in Korea," I was on the fence of excitement and uncertainty. Growing up in Bangladesh, snow was something I only read about in books or saw in movies and videos. Even during my time working in India, I never had the chance to experience it. So, when I arrived in South Korea, I was both excited and anxious about what it would feel like to see and experience snow in real life, and what kind of difficult impact it might have on my daily life.
As the first snow began to fall on November 27, one of my friends called me to go out and enjoy it. When I stepped outside, I felt a sense of wonder and curiosity. The sight of snowflakes floating down from the sky and slowly covering everything around me was unlike anything I had imagined. The world turned quieter, and I felt a deep sense of peace. But as I stood there, feeling the cold flakes on my skin, I realized that sometimes it’s these unexpected experiences that teach us the most.
It’s been three days, and I’ve also noticed how snow has transformed everyday life here. The once-bustling streets are now quieter, with people moving more cautiously, navigating the slippery roads. People are also coming out bundled up in long padding coats, gloves, and winter shoes, fully prepared for the cold. The peaceful silence that snow brings has a calming effect on everything around me. Sometimes, the things we fear most turn out to be the moments that change us, teaching us to slow down and appreciate life in ways we hadn’t before.
