① Request Edits Every Time You Input a Prompt

The first method is incredibly simple. After writing your prompt, just ask ChatGPT to review it. For example, you can simply say, “How can I improve this prompt?”

 

ChatGPT will suggest edits from various perspectives. You can then choose the version that best suits your needs. If none of the suggestions are quite right, you can always ask for further refinements.

② Create a Prompt-Editing Bot

If asking ChatGPT to revise your prompt every time feels tedious, you can set up a “bot” to automatically refine your prompts. Don’t let the word “bot” intimidate you—it’s simply a matter of giving ChatGPT instructions on how to edit prompts and asking it to apply those instructions whenever you input something new. Here's an example:

For instance, the initial prompt [I’m a Ph.D. student at the Digital Content Convergence School, conducting research on AI. Can you suggest unique and innovative AI-related research topics?] was somewhat basic and lacked specificity. However, following the pre-set method, ChatGPT transformed it into a much more detailed and refined version.

The revised prompt specified a specific context (digital content, new media, HCI, etc.), emphasized the academic value of the work, included that it would explore the social and cultural implications of AI as well as the technical innovations, and even suggested possible data collection and experimental designs to effectively generate a novel yet feasible thesis topic. 

If you’re unsure about your prompts, try refining them using these methods before diving into a full conversation with ChatGPT. These approaches can help you craft clearer, more effective prompts for your AI interactions!
