Humid Challenge: My Korean Summer

When I first arrived in Korea in March, and the weather was still cool and pleasant. I spent the spring enjoying the mild air before heading back to my home country for the summer. However, when I returned to Korea in late August, I was hit by the intense humidity. Even though I only experienced it for about a month, it was still hard to bear.
Coming from a dry country, I wasn’t used to this level of humidity. The sticky air made simple things, like walking outside or drying clothes, feel exhausting. No matter how many showers I took, I couldn’t escape the feeling of dampness. The humidity even affected my breathing and caused mold to form quickly in my apartment.
Thankfully, autumn has arrived, and now the weather is much more comfortable. The air feels cooler and less humid, which has made a huge difference in daily life. I can finally enjoy being outside without feeling weighed down by the wet air.
For anyone else dealing with Korea’s humid summer, here are a few tips that helped me:
1. Use a dehumidifier: It helps keep your space dry and prevents mold.
2. Keep air circulating: Use fans or keep windows open to help with ventilation.
3. Choose the right clothing: Lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton can make a big difference.
4. Air conditioning:
If possible, use it not just to cool down but to reduce moisture in the air. The experience made me realize how the climate in Korea is changing. The summer seems to be getting hotter and more humid each year due to climate change, which is something we all need to be aware of.
