Where did our Spring go?

Doesn’t it feel like spring just skipped us this year? The weather from April to May has been a total roller coaster. I’ve been carrying a jacket everywhere, but it’s been so tricky—I need something thick for the strong AC indoors, but then I step outside into heat so intense that a jacket is the last thing I want. Since it already feels like summer, I’m a bit sad I didn't get to truly enjoy that breezy spring vibe.
With this early heat sticking around, there are powerful warnings that the entire Korean Peninsula will face "unprecedented heatwaves" and "extreme rainfall" this summer. Because the sea surface temperatures in the North Indian and North Pacific Oceans are staying much higher than in previous years, and with the lingering effects of El Niño, the weather is becoming so volatile. It’s honestly a bit worrying to think that spring and autumn might be disappearing for good.
In response, preparations are being made across the country, including right here in Chuncheon. The city recently held the '2026 Summer Disaster and Safety Management General Measures Meeting' and designated the period from May 15th to October 15th as the 'Summer Natural Disaster Response Period.' During this time, they’ll be focusing on responding to wind, floods, and heatwaves, as well as managing various facilities to keep everyone safe.
It would be a great idea for all of you to check where your local "Cooling Centers" are and keep an eye on those disaster alerts. It really helps to be prepared! I hope everyone stays healthy and has a very safe summer!
