We all have fears. And perhaps, what better bring us face-to-face with our fears than disasters of crises? But it can be said that it is during these times that we need bravery more than ever. As what the English writer, G.K. Chesterton, once wrote in his popular book “Orthodoxy”:

“Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of a readiness to die. ‘He that will lose his life, the same shall save it,’ is not a piece of mysticism for saints and heroes… A soldier surrounded by enemies, if he is to cut his way out, needs to combine a strong desire for living with a strange carelessness about dying. He must not merely cling to life, for then he will be a coward, and will not escape. He must not merely wait for death, for then he will be a suicide, and will not escape. He must seek his life in a spirit of furious indifference to it; he must desire life like water and yet drink death like wine.”

But as was said in the reflections of the two amazing person from the YouTube channel “Cinema Therapy” about the animated movie “Spirited Away”, amid the frightful countenances and situations the protagonist, Chihiro, encountered, survival is not her only motivation to do the things she did: she was also there to help, even those whose appearance is very unsightly. The therapist then recommended this movie as a movie that one can show to one’s kids: that people does not need to be pleasing to look at for us to help, that people who need help can be someone who thinks himself or herself as unpleasant to others, and that it is what you do during crisis that can be a way for us to see a clear reflection of who we are currently.

And perhaps, one of the greatest moments of film history is when Aragorn, facing countless of enemies, said, "for Frodo", before facing them for his friend.

Be brave. Something good is awaiting for us through it all.

At least as what one of the songs of Owl City tells us.
